What was at first alarming became an uncomfortable pleasure.
Blood coursing into her face. Her nostrils and sinuses were become swollen with it. Her lungs filled with it. Her whole body became bloated with it.
Smooth, metallic and coagulating seduction.
With her eyelids swollen shut she felt the hot heavy wetness crashing against her. What seemed to be heavy waves were beating against her numb body and rolling her numbed flesh on sharp stones.
Blindly she crawled and rolled in the surf with hanging lanks of flesh bleeding and streaking the swirling skim of water red.
She felt no pain.
The clouds cleared and the wind calmed as she came first into sandy dunes. Sand caked her wounds.
Warm sun as she landed on the moss and lichen of the barrens above the beach.
Soil……
The carpet of this micro forest crept over her and clustered about the most grievous wounds.
It, for indeed it seemed an entity of its own, seeped a thin honey like liquid from their roots. It cleansed and sealed the injuries, the sap drying into a flexible amber plaster.
Then it started to quiver in a sort of excitement. Pins of energy entered her pores and laced through her from the root matt on her and down into the soil.
The freakish situation happened faster than her response. It was too much too quick enough to react to. She was emotionally held with grotesque wonder. She was held physically with thin roots.
She began to quiver in rhythm with the fungal blanket.
Her skin blossomed in a sheen of what she first thought was sweat. It was actually blood. Intuitively she knew it was not hers but that which had coursed through her intermingled with hers.
The carpet and the soil below suckled it from her like a thirsty towel.
Her senses were pushed aside by a force overtaking her mind.
Silent darkness without temperature or scent.
It could have been days or a few seconds. She remembered nothing more of that moment or that time as it may be, have been.
She lay at one with the verdant carpet as she gazed up at a morning sky. Vultures circumaviated high above.
